PHOTOCHEM Thiourea per 250gm (05518-0250)
Thiourea (chemical formula: SC(NH₂)₂) is a white, crystalline, water-soluble compound that is structurally similar to urea but contains sulfur instead of oxygen. It is commonly used in textile processing, chemical synthesis, and photography. In photography, thiourea is primarily used in sepia toning of black-and-white prints. After bleaching the developed silver image, thiourea is applied to convert the silver halide into silver sulfide, producing the classic warm brown tones associated with sepia prints. Unlike traditional sodium sulfide toners, thiourea is often preferred because it has a less offensive odor and allows more precise control over image tone—from light brown to deep chocolate—especially when combined with different alkalis. It is valued both for its aesthetic flexibility and for enhancing the archival permanence of photographic prints.
