PHOTOCHEM Potassium Ferricyanide 500gm (05524-0500PP)
Potassium ferricyanide (chemical formula: K₃[Fe(CN)₆]) is a bright red, crystalline, water-soluble compound. Despite its name, it is not highly toxic under normal photographic use, though it should always be handled with care. In photography, potassium ferricyanide is primarily used as a bleaching agent, especially in a process known as reduction or "ferricyanide reducer." When combined with a fixer (usually sodium thiosulfate), it forms a solution that lightens selected areas of a black-and-white print or negative by converting metallic silver back into a soluble form. This makes it valuable for local contrast control, dodging, and image correction. It's also used in historical and alternative processes like cyanotype and blue toning. Photographers prize it for its precision and versatility in refining images after development.
