PHOTOCHEM Sodium Carbonate per 1 kg (05532-1000PP)
Sodium Carbonate (chemical formula: Na₂CO₃), also known as washing soda or soda ash, is a white, water-soluble powder with alkaline properties. It is commonly used in household cleaning products and various industrial processes. In photography, sodium carbonate is widely used as a developing agent accelerator. It creates the alkaline environment necessary for many film and paper developers to function effectively. By raising the pH of the developer solution, sodium carbonate helps activate developing agents (like Metol or Hydroquinone), allowing them to reduce exposed silver halide crystals to metallic silver—this forms the visible image. It is especially common in black-and-white film and print developers, such as those used in traditional darkroom work, and plays a key role in controlling development time, image contrast, and tonality.
