These gel filters are required to control the contrast of variable contrast black and white photo papers. Ilford Multigrade filters are perfectly matched for use with their variable contrast papers, but work well with any variable contrast paper like Arista, Kodak, Luminos, The average variable contrast paper has a contrast grade of 2 or 2.5. To reduce the contrast, choose a lower number filter. To increase the contrast choose a higher number filter. Each set includes 12 circular filters framed for under-the-lens applications. Contrast ranges from 00 to 5.
