An original optical system of 105mm f/1.4 creates a large bokeh effect with a shallow depth of field, while enabling impressive scene capture and a moderate telephoto compression effect for exquisite photographic expression. Inheriting the concept of “three-dimensional high fidelity” from the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G, this medium-telephoto lens is designed so that, when shooting near subjects, the focus plane delivers as much sharpness as possible while providing smooth alteration of bokeh as the distance from the focus plane increases, achieving natural reproduction of the subject’s depth. This lens also features excellent bokeh characteristics with less color fringing or unnatural edges

Sharp rendering is attained for shooting distant subjects throughout the aperture range from the maximum, and when the lens is stopped down by several stops, an extremely high-definition image is realized across the entire frame.
